Introduction to Python IDLE

What is Python IDLE?

Python IDLE is an acronym that stands for Integrated Development and Learning Environment. is a very simple and sophisticated IDE designed primarily for beginners, and it is highly regarded and recommended for educational purposes due to its simplicity.

Features of IDLE:

It has the following key features:

  • Syntax highlighting in Python shell.
  • Text editor with multiple windows.
  • Autocompletion of code.
  • Ingenious indenting.
  • Debugging is aided by program animation and stepping, which allows one line of code to run at a time.
  • Breakpoints that remain constant.

To launch an IDLE interactive shell, navigate to the start menu and double-click the IDLE icon.

  • This will open IDLE, where you can write and execute the Python scripts, as shown below.
  • Python statements can be executed in the same way as in Python Shell, as shown below.
  • To run a Python script, create a new file by going to the File menu and selecting New File.
  • Enter multiple statements and save the file with extension .py using File -> Save. For example, save the following code as hello.py
print("Hello world")
print("at Coderzpy.com")

output:

Hello world
at Coderzpy.com
