There is a close analogy between learning the English language and learning the C language. We start learning English by learning about alphabets, further create words and sentences by combining the words, Similarly, in C we learn about tokens which are the smallest individual unit in a program, they can either be a keyword or a string literal or, any identifier.
auto | break | case | char |
const | continue | default | do |
double | else | enum | extern |
float | for | goto | if |
int | long | register | return |
short | signed | sizeof | static |
struct | switch | typedef | union |
unsigned | void | volatile | while |
Example: In the below-given code int and return are the keywords.
int main()
{
int a=5;
printf("Value of a is : %d",a);
return 0;
}
Note: Also read about C Programming Language & C Program – Structure. We shall see about identifiers in the next post.
